A teddy bear from Poland

Some journeys are measured in miles. Others are measured in memories…

Almost two years ago, I boarded a plane to Poland with one very special mission: to bring home a young Siberian boy named Indigo Blekit Oka *PL.

Easy enough, you might think.

Well… not quite.

My adventure began at Warsaw Airport, where I somehow managed to get wonderfully lost. I wandered around looking for the exit while, on the other side of the doors, an entire family was patiently waiting for the slightly confused Swedish cat breeder who seemed unable to find daylight.

Eventually, I emerged.

There they were—Agnieszka Puwalowska and her lovely family, welcoming me with warm smiles as if we had known each other for years.

Agnieszka herself doesn’t speak English. Like many people of her generation in Poland, she learned Russian at school instead. Fortunately, her son spoke excellent English and became our cheerful interpreter. Thanks to him, conversation flowed easily, laughter came naturally, and I immediately felt at home.

I was invited to share a delicious meal before the real attraction of the visit began—the cats!

Oh, the cats…

Everywhere I looked there were beautiful Neva masquerade cats, each one worthy of admiration. Agnieszka is an accomplished breeder whose cats are shown successfully and consistently receive outstanding judges’ comments. It wasn’t difficult to understand why.

And then there was Indigo.

At five months old he was already discovering that the ladies were rather fascinating. His growing interest in the girls was impossible to miss, although he still looked like the sweetest teddy bear imaginable.

Even today, I can honestly say that I have never met another cat quite like him.

His temperament is simply extraordinary. Gentle, affectionate, calm, endlessly patient and full of love. He isn’t just beautiful—he has a soul that melts hearts. Calling him “special” hardly does him justice. To me, he is nothing short of divine.

Too soon it was time to leave. Indigo, along with a generous collection of thoughtful gifts, was packed up for the journey back to Warsaw Airport.

As for my young travelling companion?

He behaved like a seasoned frequent flyer.

No drama.

No complaints.

No protests.

He spent the entire flight as calmly as if international travel was simply another part of everyday life.

Looking back, I don’t only remember bringing home an exceptional cat. I remember the extraordinary kindness, generosity and hospitality of a breeder who made me feel more like family than a visitor.

Some people sell kittens.

The very best breeders create lifelong friendships.

And here’s a little secret…

It seems Poland may be calling me once again in the future, as another handsome young male will possibly catch my eye…😉

So, before too long, I suspect I’ll be wandering around Warsaw Airport once more—hopefully finding the exit a little faster this time.
